Dave Schmeling

Born in Rockford Illinois in 1938, Dave Schmeling joined the Marine Corps in 1958 for a three-year tour. From 1961-1966 he worked as news director, copy chief, promotion manager and disc-jockey at radio stations in Lansing and Jackson Michigan. He held positions of instructor and administrative officer at Michigan State University and conducted research and development projects at Spindletop Research in Lexington, Kentucky from 1967-1971.

For fourteen years he directed Florida's drug abuse prevention initiative during which time he was also advisor to the White House, congressional expert witness and consultant to ten state and federal executive agencies.

He is the recipient of five national and international film awards, screenplay writer, actor, and author of over 30 articles, papers and presentations. He earned his BA and MA degrees from Michigan State University in 1964 and 1967. He received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1981.

In 1985 Dave volunteered for the private, not-for-profit Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas, FAVACA. With FAVACA president David Pasquarelli he created the Florida International Volunteer Corps. He is senior advisor to FAVACA and Community Liaison for the Florida State University Film School.
